چکیده

This paper presents a new half-plane Michell structure that transmits a uniformly distributed load of infinite horizontal extent to a series of equally-spaced pinned supports. A full kinematic description of the structure is obtained for the case when the maximum allowable tensile stress is greater than or equal to the allowable compressive stress. Although formal proof of optimality of the solution presented is not yet available, the proposed analytical solution is supported by substantial numerical evidence, involving the solution of problems with in excess of 10 billion potential members. Furthermore, numerical soluThis is an extended version of a paper prepared by Pichugin et al. SEISMIC ENERGY DEMANDS OF INELASTIC BUILDINGS DESIGNED WITH OPTIMUM DISPLACEMENT-BASED APPROACH

In present study, the effects of optimization on seismic energy spectra including input energy, damping energy and yielding hysteretic energy are parametrically discussed. To this end, 12 generic steel moment-resisting frames having fundamental periods ranging from 0.3 to 3s are optimized by using uniform damage and deformation approaches subjected to a series of 40 non-pule strong ground motio...

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF OPTIMUM AND IRANIAN SEISMIC DESIGN FORCE DISTRIBUTIONS FOR STEEL MOMENT RESISTING BUILDINGS

In this study, constant-ductility optimization algorithm under a family of earthquake ground motions is utilized to achieve uniform damage distribution over the height of steel moment resisting frames (SMRFs). SMRF structures with stiffness-degrading hysteric behavior are modeled as single-bay generic frame in which the plastic hinge is confined only at the beam ends and the bottom of the first...

Investigating the effect of pseudo-static components on bridge structures under multiple support excitations using conditional simulated records

Long-span bridges, as vital structures, play a very important role in economic development. Furthermore, the results of several earthquake-damaged bridges showed that their seismic behavior was different from that predicted under uniform excitation and in some cases the responses were more than predicted results. Therefore, the damaged bridges under non-uniform excitations were re-analyzed and ...

ASSESSMENT OF DUCTILITY REDUCTION FACTOR FOR OPTIMUM SEISMIC DESIGNED STEEL MOMENT-RESISTING FRAMES

In the present study, ten steel-moment resisting frames (SMRFs) having different numbers of stories ranging from 3 to 20 stories and fundamental periods of vibration ranging from 0.3 to 3.0 second were optimized subjected to a set of earthquake ground motions using the concept of uniform damage distribution along the height of the structures. Based on the step-by-step optimization algorithm dev...

Experimental Study on Using Uniform Tuned Liquid Column Damper for Structural Control of Buildings Resting on Loose Soil

In this study, through series of shaking table tests and statistical analysis, the efficiency of Uniform Tuned Liquid Column Damper (UTLCD) in structures resting on loose soils, considering soil-structure interaction was investigated. The soil beneath the structure is loose sandy soil. The Laminar Shear Box (LSB) as a soil container was adopted and the scaled form of the prototype structure nam...
